Fusion Lacrosse will be hosting a box training program with gameplay on Wednesday nights at Maple Zone Sports Institute in Garnet Valley. The program will be run and directed by Fusion and Penn*Lax co-founder, former Philadelphia Wing, and former MLL champion Steven Holmes.
What: 5 sessions of Box training and gameplay
When: 6-7:30pm Wednesdays (April 3, 10, 17, 24th and May 1st)
Where: MSI Sports Institute (indoors)
Ages: 3rd-6th grade
Coaches: Directed by Steven Holmes (former 8 year MLL and NLL professional)
What will be taught: Kids will learn the box game at an elite level. The skills and training are developed specifically to translate to outdoor success. We teach elite ball movement and IQ, and develop a pass first mentality. . We also drill catching and finishing as a priority. Kids will learn to defend with their feet, be ground ball focused, and offensive players will learn to initiate and deal with contact. Reps Reps Reps and proper technique will be the focus!
Explanation: “With the explosion of box lacrosse in the United States, we (Fusion) wanted to ensure that there are training opportunities in the box during all four seasons. We value and understand that Spring will always have outdoor lacrosse as a priority but young players that are serious about improving should strongly consider supplementing their training through box lacrosse and all the benefits it has to offer with our expert trainers. We purposely scheduled these sessions on weeknights as to not conflict with Spring lacrosse. Ideally this program evolves into a short but valuable training league where kids can learn the game correctly and safely, and then also have the opportunity to play in league games” – Fusion Co-Founder Steven Holmes
