Kelly Devlin (Downingtown East), who served two seasons as a volunteer assistant for Navy’s women’s lacrosse teanm, has been promoted to a full-time assistant it was announced by head coach Cindy Timchal (Haverford High). In her new role, Devlin will work with the Navy offense.
“I’m thankful to Mr. (Chet) Gladchuk and Cindy (Timchal) for giving me the opportunity to continue to work with this incredible group of young women here at the Naval Academy,” Devlin said. “I’ve been blessed to get to know all of them over the past two years, so I’ll be able to hit the ground running when we start practice this fall. I hope to inspire our offense to attack opponents with grit and creativity, and I can’t wait to see how our team does this season.”
“We are so thrilled and excited Kelly has joined our Navy women’s lacrosse staff as our assistant coach,” Timchal said. “Kelly is very passionate and brings tremendous energy to our team. Her dedication to our program is incredible. As a former national champion at North Carolina, Kelly brings a championship pedigree to all aspects of our program.”
Over the past two seasons, Devlin has helped the Midshipmen continue to reach historic heights. Navy won the Patriot League Tournament and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in 2018. The Midshipmen earned an at-large bid in the 2019 NCAA Tournament where they advanced to the second round.
As a goalies coach, she worked directly with Ingrid Boyum (2015-18), helping the Navy all-time wins and saves leader earn All-Patriot League distinction in her final season. In addition, Boyum was recognized on the Patriot League All-Tournament Team in 2018, helping lead the Midshipmen to their second straight Patriot League title.
In addition, Devlin mentored Gab Harchelroad (2016-19) at goal in 2019, helping the former walk-on record 15 wins and over 100 saves in her only season as a starter.
At North Carolina, Devlin, along with former Navy assistant coach Aly Messinger (2017-19), helped the Tar Heels win two National Championship titles (2013, ’16). Devlin was a three-year starter in the midfield and served as team captain her final two seasons at UNC.
She earned a spot in the 2015-16 U.S. National Team Tryout Pool during the off-season. In addition, Devlin participated in the Carolina Leadership Academy in the Veteran Leaders program.
A native of Downingtown, Pa. who led the Cougars to the District 1 championship in 2011 and to the state finals later that spring, Devlin was named to the All-ACC Academic Team and was a member of the ACC Honor Roll. She graduated in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in media and journalism, specializing in advertising.
