From Press Release
Fresh off raising the program’s first national championship, the Cabrini men’s lacrosse team will face a tough road if it hopes to make a return trip to Lincoln Financial Field in May.
Among the Cavaliers’ 2020 nonconference opponents, four appeared in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, four others appeared in their respective conference tournaments and one independent that posted 13 victories.
The Blue and white will open the campaign on Feb. 15 with the short trip down the Main Line for its annual meeting with Haverford. Cabrini will make its home debut one week later as it hosts Lynchburg and Dickinson on back to back Saturdays.
The Cavaliers will visit Ithaca on March 7 before four consecutive home date. York (PA) will visit Edith Robb Dixon Field in the final game of the home stand, as the Spartans will look for revenge after Cabrini’s thrilling overtime win in the national quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament.
Much like the Blue and White’s 2019 tournament schedule, a date with Salisbury awaits the Cavaliers just days after facing York. The Cavaliers will return to Salisbury after ending the Sea Gulls’ season in the national semifinal round.
On April 1, the Cavaliers will begin their quest for a 20th consecutive conference championship, as they pay a visit to Marymount for the team’s Atlantic East Conference opener. Three days later, Gwynedd Mercy will come calling in a rematch of last season’s Atlantic East championship game.
The Blue and White will comes its nonconference slate on April 10, when it heads to Owings Mills, MD to face Stevenson and close its regular season on April 22, as it hosts Marywood.
The top six teams in the conference standings will qualify for the Atlantic East Conference Tournament, which will begin on April 25 with the quarterfinal round. The opening round winners will advance to April 29’s semifinal round, with the champion decided on May 2.
Head coach Steve Colfer will open his 20th season on the Cabrini sideline with a deep and talented squad with experience in the sport’s biggest game.
While Cabrini will have to replace the leadership and production from a senior class that drove the team to a 22-2 mark in 2018, the cupboard is far from bare, including five returning USILA All-Americans.
Colfer will look to senior Tommy DeLuca, 2019 IMLCA Defensive Player of the Year, to anchor a defensive unit that surrendered just 6.83 goals per game in 2019.
Offensively, the Cavaliers will lean on seniors Jakob Klein (Wilson) and Tyler Kostack (Marple Newtown), both of whom earned All-America honors a season ago after combining for nearly 130 points.
