Visiting Central Bucks West battled back from an early deficit to post a crucial 8-7 Suburban One National Conference win over North Penn Friday.
The win moved the Bucks (12-2 overall) to 7-0 in the conference while the Knights slipped to 6-1. Central Bucks West can win its first-ever lacrosse title if it can win its last two games against Harry S. Truman and Pennsbury.
“This was a really nice win for us,” Central Bucks West coach Matt Coverdale said. “We fell behind 3-0 early and were down by two goals at halftime and to come back against a really strong team like North Penn was great to see. Just a good all-around effort from everyone.”
Christian Kunkel and Jake Ojert each had two goals for the Bucks while Erik Ojert (one assist), David Ross (one assist), Jake Lang and Conor Albrecht had one goal apiece.
Jeff Woosnam had two assists in the win and Blake Ewaskey had one. Garrett Hitchens won 13-of-19 faceoffs while goalie Max Dunar made seven saves.
“Everybody played well for us,” Ewaskey, a defender, said. “It took the offense a little bit of time to get going, but once they did they did a great job.
“We knew we needed this game and we have to keep playing well because we want to win the title.”
Ewaskey assisted on a Conor Albrecht goal that capped a 5-0 third quarter tear by the Bucks, who took a 7-4 lead into the final frame. David Ross scored the go-ahead goal to break a 4-4 tie, and Lang scored to make it a 6-4 game.
Central Bucks West will travel to Harry S Truman on Tuesday and host Pennsbury on Thursday. and North Penn (9-6, 6-1) will be on the road at Council Rock South on Tuesday.
