Natalie Pansini (Agnes Irwin) collected two goals, three assists, five draw controls and one caused turnover as upstart Puerto Rico rallied to defeat New Zealand, 12-11, today in the first round of the playoffs at the 2019 World Lacrosse Women’s U19 World Championship at Peterborough, Ontario.
Maria Pansini (Agnes Irwin, rising sophomore at Princeton) added two goals, one assist and four draw controls, while Jordan Santana (Egg Harbor-NJ) had the game-winner for Puerto Rico.
Delaney Rodriquez-Shaw led Puerto Rico with three goals and an assist and Antonella Henson-Vendrell scored three goals.
Natalie Pansini, a rising senior, had tied the game, 10-10, with minutes remaining. Baerga (signed with Liberty) then put Puerto Rico ahead, 11-10, and Puerto Rico then made it 12-10.
Puerto Rico, despite being seeded in the lowest pool in the 22-team tourney, is expected to meet the third seed, England, an 18-9 winner over China, in the quarterfinals.
