The La Salle women’s lacrosse team scored its second highest goal total of the season in a 16-9 road win over Manhattan on Friday.

The Explorers began the game in a big way, scoring the first four goals of the contest. Rachel Ceplo (Delran-NJ) and Brittany Edwards (Great Valley) each put a pair of shots into the back of the net to give the Blue and Gold the 4-0 lead nine minutes into the game.

After the Jaspers scored their first goal, Ceplo answered with her third of the game.

Freshman Bridget Ruskey (Middle Township-NJ) scored once more later in the first half, giving the Explorers the 6-2 advantage heading into the half.

The Explorers scored ten more times in the second half, coming out even stronger offensively.

Edwards scored her third goal of the game just seconds into the half. Later on, she’d score again.

Mikki Raymond (Abington) and Ruskey both had big second halves with three goals and two assists each in the frame.

Isabel Caddick scored her first goal of the game as well.

In net, Lynne Frankel had five saves. The sophomore goalie entered the game fourth in the nation in saves per game.

La Salle led the game in ground balls with 18 total.

Division III

Cabrini 17, Centenary 2

The Cavaliers saw their four game losing streak come to an end, as the Blue and White scored a win at Centenary in a CSAC opener. The victory improved Cabrini to 2-4 overall.

The Cavaliers have extended their conference win streak to 50 games.

Cabrini wasted little time taking control of the action, as junior Avery Murphy (Archbishop Carroll) scored the first of her four goals just 10 seconds after the opening whistle. The Cavaliers never looked back, as they outshot the Cyclones 17-1 in the first half.

The Blue and White recorded 23 shots on the day to just four for Centenary, including 21-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Ten Cavaliers marked the scoring column in today’s action, led by Murphy’s four. Fellow junior Liz Hoeffner paired three goals and three assists. Sophomore Lauren Hughes (Methacton) and freshman Taylor Dimmerling (Berks Catholic) added two goals each and combined for three assists.
