From Press Release

Westtown School has named former college and high school Philly coach Todd MacFarlane as its head lacrosse coach.

Todd MacFarlane

A native of Crofton, MD, MacFarlane has spent the previous 20 years building, funding, coaching, and directing numerous programs at the Middle School, High School, Collegiate, and Club Levels. In addition, he has extensive experience in physical fitness training, skill development, and college recruiting.

Westtown School’s Co-Athletic Director Mich Linder is excited about what MacFarlane will bring to the lacrosse program. “Todd’s coaching and playing experience are going to transform our program here at Westtown without a doubt. He has coached at the highest level and has a proven record of developing world-class lacrosse players and programs.”

MacFarlane is a co-coach with the Penn*Lax Platinum (High School) box lacrosse team that went undefeated this winter and won several elite tournaments. Most recently, MacFarlane was the Assistant Men’s Lacrosse Coach at the University of Pennsylvania where he helped UPenn earn another trip back to the Ivy League Tournament.

MacFarlane arrived at the University of Pennsylvania from the University of Maryland, where he spent the 2016 season as the Terrapins’ Director of Lacrosse Operations and helped lead them to the NCAA Championship final as well as Big 10 Regular Season and Conference Tournament Championships.

Just prior to his Maryland stint, MacFarlane spent four years as an assistant at Malvern Preparatory School where he helped the Friars to the Inter-Ac co-championship in 2013, and in 2014 Malvern Prep won the Inter-Ac regular-season and Invitational titles and finished with the No. 2 high school ranking nationally. Additionally, he was instrumental in the implementation of offseason conditioning programs, team showcases and skill development that help produce eight US Lacrosse All-Americans and numerous conference and state player accolades.

From 2009-12, MacFarlane was the Director of Athletics, Facility Rentals, and Head of Physical Education and Health Departments at The Phelps School in Malvern, PA. While at Phelps, he spearheaded and managed the conversion of the school’s Equestrian Center into an Indoor Athletic Complex. In addition to his Phelps School duties, he also served as the Tri-County Leagues Commissioner for cross country and lacrosse.

MacFarlane has also served as the Director of the La Jolla, CA. Lacrosse Foundation where he was responsible for development and expansion of a citywide lacrosse program. In addition, he was the founder and Director of Top Notch Training LLC (TNT), California’s first box lacrosse training company.

MacFarlane began his college career at Anne Arundel Community College, then moved on to Pfeiffer University. He was a Deep South All-Conference player in 2002 as Pfeiffer’s captain, top scorer, and MVP. He ranked in the Top 20 nationally in point that season. He also was a Deep South All-Conference Academic recipient. MacFarlane later played professionally in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) with the Anaheim Storm.

MacFarlane earned a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and Multi-Subject Teaching from Chapman University. Prior to college, MacFarlane served in the United States Marine Corps from 1994-98 and was honorably discharged and decorated with honors.

“I am thrilled to become the new Head Coach at Westtown School and grateful to Athletic Directors Mich Linder and Paul Lehmann for the opportunity to lead the program,” says MacFarlane. “Westtown is filled with talented people who do amazing things every day and has a family like atmosphere that welcomed me with open arms. With a rich history, both in academics and athletics, superb facilities, and an exciting athletic program, I’m eager to help do my part in leading the boys’ lacrosse program to success. GO ’TOWN!”

MacFarlane lives in West Chester, PA with his wife, Jennifer, and bulldog, Sweet Pea.
