From Press Release

Saint Joseph’s co-captains Chris Blewit (Lincoln Park, N.J./Bergen Catholic) and Mike Rastivo (South Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville/Choate Rosemary Hall (Conn.)) have been selected as finalists for the Senior CLASS Award in collegiate men’s lacrosse, it was announced on Thursday afternoon. Ten of the top NCAA men’s lacrosse student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as finalists. Saint Joseph’s is the only Division I men’s lacrosse program to have two finalists selected.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Blewitt, a 2017 All-Northeast Conference First Team attackman, is a finance major out of Lincoln Park, N.J. The junior attackman is a member of Saint Joseph’s Delta Sigma Pi national professional business fraternity and is set to work with Mizuho Securities USA as an analyst in their Capital Markets group following graduation. Blewitt also spearheaded the SJU men’s lacrosse program’s efforts in dedicating its home game vs. St. John’s this March to the One Love Foundation. He ties for ninth all-time, with Rastivo, in career assists (56) on Hawk Hill and sits 10th all-time in career points (135). All of Blewitt’s achievements in the areas of community, classroom, character, and competition can be found in his Senior CLASS Award biography.

The 2018 Inside Lacrosse NEC Preseason Player of the Year, graduate student attackman Rastivo is a native of South Setauket, N.Y. Rastivo graduated from Saint Joseph’s in May 2017 with a degree in business administration and is currently pursing an M.S. in Organization Development and Leadership from SJU. Rastivo, who missed the 2017 campaign due to offseason injury, sits second in career goals (117) and fifth in career points (173) on Hawk Hill and ties for ninth, with Blewitt, in career assists (56) at SJU. Rastivo will begin full-time employment as both the Director of HHH Operations (middle school division) and Offensive Coordinator at Germantown Academy this May. All of Rastivo’s achievements in the areas of community, classroom, character, and competition can be found in his Senior CLASS Award biography.

The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 20 candidates announced earlier this month; senior long stick midfielder Austin Smith was one of those 20 candidates as, for the second year in a row, Saint Joseph’s led all NCAA Division I men’s lacrosse programs with three candidates selected.

Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner, and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through May 14. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipient will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse National Championships in Boston from May 26-28.
