From Press Release
Saint Joseph’s men’s lacrosse head coach Taylor Wray and the Canadian National Team will play for the 2018 Federation of International Lacrosse Men’s Lacrosse World Championship this Saturday, July 21.
Serving as defensive coordinator, Wray and his Canadian squad will take on the United States in the gold medal game at 3 a.m. ET. The game will be televised on ESPN2 and streamed on ESPN+ from Netanya, Israel, with a rebroadcast of the game at noon on ESPNU.
Returning as the defensive coordinator of the Canadian National Team after stints in the 2010 (silver medal) and 2014 (gold medal) men’s world championships, Wray helped his team to a 4-1 record in pool play and a spot in the semifinals this year. In Thursday’s semifinal matchup against Iroquois, Canada’s defense dominated in a 15-4 victory, earning its sixth-straight appearance in the championship game.
Along with Wray, the Hawks had a strong presence at the FIL Men’s Lacrosse World Championship as assistant coach Mike Horowitz and incoming freshman Matt Popeck were members of the Israeli National Team. Horowitz, the team’s defensive coordinator, and Popeck, a starting defender, have helped Israel to a matchup versus Puerto Rico in the seventh place game on Friday.
