Kacey Knobloch had four goals and one assist while Robin Panzarella and Kayla Frank each scored three goals as Moorestown toppled Ridgewood, 14-9, Saturday to win the Tournament of Champion at Kean University.
The Quakers finished 23-2 and won their first T of C title since 2014 and seventh overall since the tourney was created in 2007.
“We are all so happy that we accomplished our goal,” said Panzarella. “This ia an incredible credit to everybody that stepped on the field. I don’t think one person stood out – it was a team effort.”
Panzarella said Moorestown’s passing game fit perfectly into the gameplan.
“We knew Ridgewood plays active on defense so the offense needed to move the ball quickly,” she said. “Dodging would not work as well. Feeding is such a part of our game.
“Also, we beat them in transition at times and got a few fast breaks, which I think killed their momentum. Our defense and aggressive play caused turnovers and being able to capitalize was big against such a good team.”
Ashley Nutt had one goal and three assists and Cailin Field added two goals and one assist for the Quakers, who broke open a 9-8 game with four straight goals in the final 12 minutes.
Logan Lillie had eight saves for Moorestown. Jackie Wolak had four goals and an assist and Kara Rahaim had 11 saves for Ridgewood (22-4).
Panzarella said the Moorestown senior class was dedicate to winning the TofC title.
“I think the seniors really wanted it,” she said “We had the motivation needed to go all the way this year. We didn’t want to leave without a TofC trophy in our hands. It’s a credit to all the hard work throughout our four years and it shows we really did want this. We wanted this for Mrs. (Deanna) Knobloch, to win it again.”
