From Press Release

Senior attacker Sabrina Fusco (Garnet Valley) scored her 175th career goal in the black and gold to become the program’s all-time goal scoring leader as Millersville defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 20-1 Tuesday evening.

Sabrina Fusco (Garnet Valley)

The newly honored PSAC Women’s Lacrosse Athlete of the Week erupted for eight goals including five second-half goals against the Bobcats. Fusco’s accuracy was lethal against West Virginia Wesleyan as she placed 10 of her 12 shots on goal. She also recorded one assist as she facilitated senior Kristen Butzner’s opening goal in the first three minutes. Fusco’s 23 goals so far this season ranks first in the PSAC as she has scored 12 more goals than any other player in the conference.

Now that she has conquered the goal scoring record, Fusco has another record in her sights. She sits seven points away from becoming the new all-time points leader ahead of program legend and Millersville Hall-of-Fame Class of ’17 inductee, Elizabeth Weekley (Pottstown).

Butzner led the team with 11 points against the Bobcats. She assisted nine goals for the second straight game, and she matched former Marauder great Abby Mack’s single-game assist record of nine assists in two straight games. Butzner scored two goals including the game-opening goal which proved to be the game-winner.

Butzner currently leads the team with 32 points on the season including 23 assists. After only four games, Butzner sits within striking distance of Mack’s single-season assist record of 32 assists. Butzner ranks first in the PSAC in assists and has eight more than any other player in the conference.

The Marauders opened the game with Butzner’s goal and a goal from junior captain Erin Fagan in the opening six minutes of play. Less than a minute after Fagan’s goal, the Bobcats answered to cut Millersville’s lead to one. Fusco responded with her first goal of the game and Millersville’s third with 20:28 remaining in the first half. Fusco’s goal sparked a scoring run featuring 18 unanswered goals for the Marauders in the remaining minutes of the first half and the whole second half.

Senior Callie Kavanaugh and freshman Genevieve Speights joined Butzner and Fusco as Millersville’s other multi-goal scorers. Cavanaugh scored two goals including a free-position goal along with one assist. Speights scored two goals on three shots while shooting perfect from the free-position.

In total, 10 Marauders scored goals while 13 of the team’s 20 goals were assisted. The Marauders have built their offensive play through strong passing with 48 of the team’s 81 goals carrying assists in the opening four games of the season.

Redshirt junior Shannon Davis was dominant between the pipes as she saved nine shots from the Bobcats while only giving up a single goal. The goalkeeper is undefeated this season and has four wins and 23 saves under her belt while only allowing 4.5 goals per game.

Winners of four straight, the Marauders have matched their 4-0 start from last season which was the best start for the team since the 2013 season.
