From Press Release
Chris Fleming, a graduate of Upper Moreland High School, was named winner of the Matt Davis Award at Misericordia University’s Seventh annual “Matt Davis Men’s Lacrosse Alumni Game.”
The game is played in memory of Matthew Davis, a former Garnet Valley High (Class of 2002) and Misericordia (2006) lacrosse player who was struck and killed by an automobile near his Kennett Square home on March 17, 2012 at the age of 28.
Prior to the game the “Matt Davis Award” was presented to Fleming to recognize a Misericordia player who demonstrated the qualities that made Matt an outstanding player and teammate.
On the award plaque are the words “Matt was a loving, caring teammate and a true gentleman at all times. He was dedicated, committed and always worked hard on and off the field; a true teammate that made others better just by being around him. He had a true love of the game and a love of life. Matt motivated others and he always had a smile that would lighten up the darkest days.”
Fleming started all 16 games and totaled 52 points on 36 goals and 16 assists for Misericordia in 2018, his senior season. He tallied five goals and one assist in the MAC Freedom Championship game against Eastern University.
Matthew’s life and legacy on and off the field continue to be an inspiration to his teammates and the current and future members of the Misericordia lacrosse family.
