From Press Release
Florida lacrosse head coach Amanda (Moore) O’Leary – who starred for Temple when it was the dominant program in the 1908s and is a Spring-Ford graduate – claimed a milestone on Saturday, earning her 300th career victory with a 16-11 win over the Georgetown Hoyas.
O’Leary becomes just the fifth coach in the history of DI women’s lacrosse to accomplish that feat, joining Navy’s Cindy Timchal (497), Princeton’s Chris Sailer (390), North Carolina’s Jenny Levy (318), and Virginia’s Julie Myers (307).
Timchal (Haverford High grad), Sailer (Haverford High) and Myers (Harriton) also are Philly products.
“Mandee has one of the best lacrosse minds that I have been around in my time as a player and coach,” remarked lead assistant coach Taryn VanThof. “Each day she (O’Leary) makes an investment to better those around her; whether it’s players, staff, or even herself. It’s inspiring.”
The Royersford Pa native has a career record of 300-100 (.750) in 23 seasons as a head coach.
After spending the first 14 seasons of her tenure as a head coach at Yale (1994-2007, 162-65), O’Leary has turned Florida lacrosse into a national power since its inception in 2010.
The Gators finished their inaugural season with a remarkable 10-8 record, picking up three victories over ranked opponents.
Since the 2011 season, Florida has boasted a 128-27 (.826) record, which is the second most wins of any DI women’s lacrosse team. The Gators have won seven consecutive conference championships under O’Leary’s tutelage, and have finished six of eight seasons ranked in the IWLCA’s Top-10.
Florida has advanced to the NCAA tournament each season since 2011, including four quarterfinal appearances and a berth in the 2012 Final Four.
“What sticks out to me the most about Mandee is her passion for this team, and the energy she brings each day. She has a willingness to do whatever it takes for this team and university to be successful,” said first year assistant coach Nadine Hadnagy. “I think she (O’Leary) has built up an amazing culture inside the program, and I couldn’t be happier to be a part of it.”
O’Leary has coached 15 Gators who have earned 55 All-America honors, four Tewaaraton Finalists, and two Honda Sports Award nominees in her time at Florida.
