T.J. Malone scored his fourth goal in overtime off a Peter Garno feed to lift visiting Haverford School to a 9-8 victory Friday night in an Inter-Ac League finale.
The Fords (15-3), top-ranked by Phillylacrosse.com, finished 5-0 in the Inter-Ac’s regular season. This year the league champion is being decided by a playoff tournament, which opens with two first-round games May 15 at undetermined sites. EA (7-5) closed at 3-2 in the league.
Haverford School held a 8-4 lead with just over 6 minutes to play in the third period when Malone netted his third goal. But Nick Bates (three goals) pulled the Churchmen within 8-5 late in the period and Charlie Cunniffe later tied it, 8-8, with 26.6 seconds left in regulation.
Chris McCoun added two goals for EA and Matt Chess posted 8 saves. Rowan Brumbaugh and Gabe Furey each scored once.
For Haverford, Luke O’Grady scored twice and Harrison Fellheimer posted 7 saves. Garno, Adam Salvaggio and Scott Deck each scored once for the Fords.
