Head coach Kerstin Kimel (Haverford High) and the Duke women’s lacrosse team welcomed 11 student-athletes to the program ahead of the 2019 campaign. Midfielder Veronica Hineman joins the Blue Devils from Unionville and Ultimate Lacrosse in Pennsylvania.
A native of West Chester, Pa., Hineman garnered All-America distinction from US Lacrosse as a senior after guiding Unionville to league and state titles. She totaled 162 draw controls in her final season and rounded out her career with 139 goals, 61 assists and 320 draw controls. Hineman was a three-time all-league selection, receiving first team honors as a junior and senior, and a First Team All-Phillylacrosse.com pick.
Hineman was selected to the Under Armour Underclass All-America team and also took part in the US Lacrosse National Tournament with Philadelphia teams.
She also excelled on the soccer field, being named the Ches-Mont League American Conference MVP after leading her squad to a league championship her senior year.
Hineman joins 10 other incoming Blue Devils in the freshman class.
Why did you choose Duke?
Veronica Hineman: Duke University’s prestigious academics, elite athletics and abundant amount of school spirit is more than I could ever wish for in a school.
What is your favorite lacrosse memory?
VH: “Winning the PIAA 3A Girls’ Lacrosse Championship my senior year.”
When did you start playing lacrosse?
VH: “I started playing lacrosse in third grade for URA and then for Spirit Select Lacrosse. Going into ninth grade, my Spirit team switched over to create the first Ultimate Lacrosse Chester County team.”
What are your goals for your collegiate career?
VH: “To become the best teammate that I can and to win a national championship.”
Who has had the biggest impact on your life?
VH: “My parents have impacted my life the most because they have provided me with all of the tools that I need to be successful, have believed in me in everything that I do and have taught me the importance of a strong work ethic.”
