Black Bear Lacrosse Club is proud to announce that Former NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins College Head Coach and Current Eastern University Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Coordinator Matthew Justice has been hired as the offensive assistant coach and Co-Recruiting Coordinator for the Black Bear 2021 Team.
“Matt is going to be a great fit with our club he exemplifies the values and characteristics we look for in all our coaches,” said Black Bear Co-Owner/Director Bryan Churchey. “Matt is a young, enthusiastic, and bright young man that simplifies, breaks down, and explains offensive situations with players extremely well. In talking with Coach (Joe) Reynolds (Marymount Head Coach) and Coach (Kevin) Wallace (Eastern Head Coach) they identified Matt as someone who loves teaching kids, interacting with players, and is passionate about his opportunities to mold the next generation. Its a perfect fit, he’ll get to coach these guys throughout the rest of their high school careers and help our families identify the best academic/athletic fits for their future.”
Coach Justice will be taking over as the Offensive Coordinator for the 2021 team that won its first Championship and amassed 11 wins this past summer under Head Coach Chris Defeo. He will also be Co-Coordinating Recruiting efforts for the 2021 and other Black Bear High School teams helping families throughout their recruiting process, contacting coaches, and guiding them throughout their process.
At Davis & Elkins he was solely in charge of bring in 24 recruits to the program. “We’re excited for him to work with our families that was one of the areas he feels he has a calling for, helping families find the best fit academically and athletically his views on recruiting are very much aligned with the Student-Athletes we try out develop within our club,” said Churchey
Coach Justice will be the Offensive Coordinator/Goalies Coach/Substitution Box Coordinator for Eastern University over the next 3 seasons as he pursues his Masters degree. Prior to joining the Eastern University Men’s Lacrosse Staff earlier this summer Coach Justice was the Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach at NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins College in 2017-18 after taking over the program in 2016-17 becoming the youngest Head Coach in NCAA Men’s Lacrosse History. He has also been an assistant or club head coach for Zingos(MD), Lights Out (VA) and Team 6 (VA) from 2012-18.
As a player, coach Justice started 44 of 46 games in college starring as a freshman at Division III Shenandoah University before transferring to play for Coach Reynolds at Marymount university where he amassed 99 goals and 26 assists finishing in the top three in goals and point every season. He is a Native of Ellicott City, Maryland and played at National Powerhouse DeMatha Catholic High School.
Black Bear Lacrosse Club Team Tryouts will be held at Phoenixville Early Learning Center Saturday August 18th for 2nd-8th grades and Sunday August 19th for 9th-11th grades. Black Bear is committed to offering families quality coaching and instruction with a goal of developing better lacrosse players to compete at the highest level they desire. Black Bear offers a traditional seasonal club experience to families while also allowing our members the option to participate in year-round playing opportunities specifically tailored to the needs of the multi-sport athlete.
2ND TRYOUT FOR 2018-19 CLUB TEAMS WILL BE ON SATURDAY AUGUST 18TH (YOUTH GRADES 2ND-8TH) AND SUNDAY AUGUST 19TH (HIGH SCHOOL 9TH-11TH) AT PHOENIXVILLE HIGH SCHOOL
