Zack Nelson scored with 8:14 to play and Nolan Barr was a standout in goal as Allentown Central Catholic claimed a 9-8 win over Southern Lehigh Thursday in the District 11 boys’ AA championship at Lehigh University’s Ulrich Sports Complex.
Allentown Central Catholic (16-5) trailed, 8-7, entering the final quarter, but Matt Scandone tied it 11 seconds into the period. Barr (12 saves) made several key stops to stave off several Southern Lehigh chances.
The Vikings advance to Tuesday’s PIAA first round and will meet Susquehannock, the No. 4 seed from District 3, at 6:30 p.m. at Emmaus’ Memorial Field.
Southern Lehigh (16-4) dominated in shots, taking 33 compared to 18 for the Vikings. Senior Under Armour All-American Mike Sisselberger won 16 of the 20 face-offs and scored once.
Nelson, Scandone and Matt Marker registered two goals each and Daniel Glemser had two assists for Allentown Central Catholic.
Ken Wolfe had four goals and Kyle Hoff had three for Southern Lehigh, which had defeated the Vikings, 11-10, in overtime on April 11.
