From Press Release
Saint Joseph’s Lacrosse and Maverik are teaming up this summer from July 26th to the 28th for Philadelphia’s premier overnight recruiting showcase, The Maverik Hawk Hill 150.
Hawks Coach Taylor Wray and his staff have taken a different approach in developing the Hawk Hill 150 in an effort to allow players to better showcase themselves for college coaches and prepare for the rigors on NCAA lacrosse.
Coach Wray explains the simple nature of traditional showcases: “Most summer showcases consist of a huge group of high school players receiving a numbered pinnie and playing game after game with a group of players they have never played with before. There is very little instruction or direction.”
“With the Maverik Hawk Hill 150, we wanted the event to be more in line with how college coaches evaluate their own players: through competitive drills, practices, and controlled scrimmages. Coaches want to be able to evaluate players competitive spirt, their ability to process, apply and retain information as well as the traditional attributes like skill and athleticism.”
The Saint Joseph’s staff along with members of other premier NCAA coaching staffs like Duke University, Drexel University, University of Delaware, Lehigh University, University of Richmond, Villanova University and others will put together positional skill sessions, high level college-type practices and drills to assure each player is evaluated in the role that best suits their skill set. By the end of the event participants will walk away better lacrosse players and with a thorough understanding of what it takes to play at the highest level.
At the Maverik Hawk Hill 150 there are three goals for the student-athletes: Learn and improve as a lacrosse player, showcase their talent in front of college coaches, and leave with a better grasp of the recruiting process and a plan to reach their goals.
“Here at Saint Joseph’s we are very proud to be an exclusive Maverik partner. They continue to develop the best technology in the game to give us every edge we can get on the field. Maverik has also created some of the best recruiting events in the country. We believe the Hawk Hill 150 will be one of those events.”
Maverik and Saint Joseph’s began their partnership in 2015, becoming one of 20 Division One men’s lacrosse programs to exclusively use Maverik equipment.
