Saint Joseph’s men’s lacrosse rising senior attackman Chris Blewitt has been named Northeast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, conference officials announced on Thursday.

Saint Joseph’s also placed 12 men’s lacrosse student-athletes on the Northeast Conference 2017 Spring Academic Honor Roll. Student-athletes must post at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA in order to be named to the honor roll. The Hawks landed one senior, six juniors, one sophomore, and four freshmen on the list.

Additionally, Blewitt and rising sophomore Nicholas Vernacchio earned a spot on the NEC Spring Commissioner’s Honor Roll for achieving at least a 3.75 cumulative GPA. This marks Blewitt’s third year on the list.

A 2017 Northeast Conference First Team selection, Blewitt led the Hawks in points (45), goals (27) and assists (18) in all 14 starts this spring. The native of Lincoln Park, N.J., recorded six points on a career-high five goals and one assist in SJU’s win over Manhattan, scored four goals against Hobart, and went for three goals and two helpers against Robert Morris, Sacred Heart, and St. John’s. In the season finale, Blewitt went for two goals and five assists in SJU’s win over Mount St. Mary’s as he finished his junior campaign ranked fourth in the NEC in points per game (3.21), fifth in assists per game (1.29) and eighth in goals per game (1.93).

For his career, Blewitt has tallied 115 points on 69 goals and 46 assists. Selected to the 2016 and 2017 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Teams and tabbed the 2015 NEC Rookie of the Year, Blewitt is currently majoring in finance at SJU.

Blewitt and rising senior classmates Kyle Cain, Brendan McNicholas (Avon Grove), and Austin Smith made the NEC Spring Academic Honor Roll for the third consecutive year, while recent graduate Tyler Cliggett (St. Joseph’s Prep), rising senior Pat Dallon, and rising junior Zack Reiss have now made it back-to-back years.
