The Ridley Masters squad defeated Team Advil, 10-6, last Thursday at Maple Zone to capture the hursday night Summer Lacrosse League of Southeastern Pennsylvania Masters Championship.
In only its third year in the league, Ridley has won two straight titles.

Ridley Masters struck first in the opening minutes of the championship game after fending off Advil’s initial offensive attacks. The teams traded goals thru the 2nd qtr but it was Team Advil who was winning the offensive possession battle and keeping Ridley’s defense on its heels. Ridley Masters goaltender Matt Murray stood tall with great support from his defense; collectively they made stop after stop to help offset Team Advil’s offensive pressure.
Ridley led, 6-4, at halftime, behind a strong defense and standout goaltending by Matt Murray. Ridley tallied twice to open an 8-4 lead early in the second half, and held a 9-5 lead headed into the final period on strong face-off work by Mark McKinney and Jay Whaley.
Close defensemen Chris Bryan, Chris Calamita, Sean O’Doherty, Matt Flynn, and Jody Dougherty led the stingy defense and LSMs Jim Gavin, Chris Crooks, and Bernie DeLacy all helped contribute to the win.
Ridley idfielders Mark McKinney, Matt McKinney, Brian Pot, Brian Bair, Whaley, Devin Mossor, Damon Blizzard, Ray Kendrick, Chris Capozzoli, Jason Willoughby, Joe Doubet Jr., Sean Kelly, and John Moretti all helped support the team in its winning effort.
The Ridley attack was lead by Bob Calamita, Jason Kilpatrick, Paul Middleton, Jeff Murray, and Tom Sladek.
The Ridley Masters roster features former Ridley High Schools grads from 1980’s thru the early 2000’s.
Thanks goes out to all the teams in the Thursday night SLLSEPA Masters Division in addition to Ridley Masters and Team Advil: Philly Masters, Bickle Electric, Wilmington Wings, and Kelly’s- great job by all this season.
Ridley Masters championship game goals scored by: Bob Calamita 4, Paul Middleton 2, while Chris Capozzoli, Matt Mckinney, Jeff Murray, and Tom Sladek each netted 1 goal. Assists dished out by Jason Kilpatrick and Mark McKinney.
Ridley Masters team leader Jeff Murray said, “we have a lot of fun still playing together with many of our former Ridley High School teammates. We are thankful for the opportunity to compete in the masters summer league. The league is very competitive and rivalries have developed among league teams which makes for some great grown-man lacrosse action!”
