The Villanova Wildcats (1-3) earned their first win of the season in comeback fashion today as they defeated the Drexel Dragons (0-3) by a final of 15-13. Villanova closed out the game on a 7 to 1 run earn their 22nd program win against the Dragons.
Christian Cuccinello got the streak started on a pass from Jack Curran on an extra man opportunity with just 38 seconds to go in the third, Villanova was down 12-9 at this point. Danny Seibel with just two seconds to go in the half was able to get a final shot to go in and bring the Wildcats within two.
The fourth quarter was all Villanova and Jake Froccaro. Froccaro scored back to back goals within 20 seconds to tie things up. His first goal at the 9:33 mark and was assisted by Devin McNamara, who finished with three assists. The second as on a pass from Curran during a man-up opportunity, the Wildcats were able to score on four of their eight extra man opportunities against the Dragons.
At the 6:39 mark Villanova took their first lead of the game on a Curran goal assisted by Cuccinello. The final two goals were scored by underclassmen first it was sophomore, Joey Froccaro who drove through the lane and scored and the final goal was by freshman, Connor Kirst.
Kirst, scored his first collegiate goal in the 3rd quarter and went 8-of-14 from the X and had five ground balls. Joey Froccaro went 4-for-6 from faceoffs while brother Jake was 2-of-7 but had a team high six ground balls.
Nick Testa had four saves during the first half of play and was replaced by Dan Willis (Moorestown) at the start of the second half. Willis only played 12 minutes of the 3rd quarter before Testa came back in and played the rest of the game.
Cole Shafer had four goals for the Dragons, Will Manganiello (Penncrest) had two goals and an assist and Robert Frazee had two goals.
Villanova will return home to take on the Delaware Blue Hens this Saturday, March 4th. Game time is set for 3:00 P.M.
