Germantown Friends School’s Celia Meyer has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at Colgate University.

To honor the milestone, the school community gathered in the school’s historic Friends Free Library so that Meyer and three other GFS athletes could share their signing publicly with teammates, coaches, school administrators, and their families.

The other athletes who signed commitment letters today were; Portia McKoy, Lafayette College (Track & Field); Teasha McKoy, Lehigh University (Track & Field), and James Wright committed to Stanford University (Crew).

GFS Athletic Director and head lacrosse coach Katie Bergstrom Mark spoke at the occasion, highlighting each student’s accomplishments. “These exceptional athletes are not only role models for their teammates but are also leaders in our community,” she noted.

Bergstrom Mark explained that all four student-athletes are quintessential examples of what the school strives to represent. “They are academic; they dedicate their lifestyle to being dynamic athletes; they are competitors and strive to be better each time they are on the river, track or field – not for recognition, but for pure competitiveness.”

She remarked that the school community is buoyed by the example set by these individuals. “They let others into their successes and make it fun for even the most beginner athlete to join in.” In closing her remarks, Bergstrom Mark observed how the endurance and commitment shown by the athletes is at the heart of their accomplishment. “We’re certain that the drive and strength that has propelled these four students to this achievement will continue to serve them well in the next stage of their academic and athletic career.
