Two Philly teams from the Inter-Ac League accepted the ultimate challenge on Monday in their season openers.
Both Penn Charter and Springside Chestnut Hill Academy took on mighty Hill Academy of Ontario, Canada on Monday in a rare doubleheader for the team named the top high school club in North America last year by every major poll.
Hill, also making its seaso debut, first defeated host Penn Charter in a 4 p.m. start, 16-5, and sent its top players over to face Springside Chestnut Hill in a night game at St. Joseph’s University. In that contest, SCHA held its own, trailing just 5-3 at halftime before Hill pulled away in the second half.
For Penn Charter, Gavin Tygh was a standout at the face-off X, winning 14 of 22 draws and scoring once while Luke Stansfield scored twice and Dean Roseman and Shane Weitz each had a goal. Mac Wilson had an assist and Carson Murano and Morgan Miller each posted 6 saves.
Springside Chestnut Hill Academy got two goals each from Mac McLaughlin and Matt Bown while CJ Sweitzer scored once and Zach Messerle added an assist. Bern Popky posted 9 saves and Delaney Sweitzer had 4 saves.
