St. Joseph’s scored the final five goals of the first half and would keep at least a two-goal lead for the rest of the game as the host Hawks capped the regular-season schedule with a 15-12 win over George Washington on Sweeney Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks improve to 11-6 and 7-2 in the Atlantic 10 while the Colonials close their season at 3-13 (2-7 A-10).

Saint Joseph’s has officially earned the second seed for the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championships, to be hosted on Sweeney Field from May 4-7.

SJU’s 11th win of the season stands as the new program record for single-season wins, surpassing the 2009 squad’s previous record of 10.

Senior attacker Nora McCallion (Academy of Notre Dame de Namur) led the way with seven points on four goals and three assists.

The Hawks will face the winner of No. 3 Richmond (7-2 A-10) and No. 6 La Salle (3-6 A-10) on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

The championship expanded to six teams last year, giving UMass (9-0 A-10) and the second-seeded Hawks a bye into Friday’s semifinals. The winner of Sunday’s championship final will receive the A-10’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

A three-way tie for second place between Saint Joseph’s, Richmond, and George Mason was broken by goal differential in games played between the tied teams, and the Hawks’ 10-goal win over the Patriots on April 21 made the difference.

No. 4 George Mason (7-2 A-10) will face No. 5 Davidson (5-4 A-10) in the first of two quarterfinals on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. No. 1 UMass (9-0 A-10) will face the winner of that game on Friday at 1:00 p.m.

All five games of the Lacrosse Championship will be streamed through the A-10 Network for free, which can be accessed from Atlantic10.com.
