From Press Release
US Lacrosse is pleased to announce the roster that will represent the United States in the Heritage Cup, an exhibition game between the U.S. and Canadian indoor men’s lacrosse teams that will take place on October 21 at the FirstOntario Centre in Hamilton, Ontario.
The roster will feature seven players – Holt Ghost Prep/Delaware grad Brett Manney (NXT Lacrosse), David Mather, Donny Moss, Chris O’Dougherty, Joe Resetarits, Blaze Riorden and Joel White – that helped the U.S. win bronze in the most recent Federation of International Lacrosse World Indoor Lacrosse Championship in 2015, but also a number of intriguing new names.
“The coaches and staff sat down and looked at the pool of players, and there are a few guys banged up who can’t play, but this is just one of many opportunities we’ll have to evaluate what we have,” said U.S. head coach Regy Thorpe. “We’ve got a good mix of veterans and younger players.”
Thorpe and his staff are beginning the process to put together the team that will ultimately represent the U.S. at the next Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Indoor Lacrosse Championship, which will be held Sept. 19-28, 2019 at the Langley Events Centre in British Columbia, Canada.
Among the new players to the U.S. indoor team will be 2017 National Lacrosse League (NLL) Rookie of the Year Tom Schreiber, 2014 All-World field lacrosse honoree Rob Pannell and 2017 Tewaaraton finalist Connor Fields, a senior at Albany who spent the summer playing box lacrosse in Canada.
Returning to the fold is Paul Rabil, a member of the 2011 U.S indoor team who did not play in the 2015 world championship due to a foot injury. Rabil, named to the all-world team at the last two FIL field championships, has not played in the NLL since 2013.
Kevin Buchanan, the captain of the U.S indoor team in 2015, is injured and unable to participate, but will make the trip with the team.
