Recently ranked 14th on the 2017 Face-Off Yearbook Division II Men’s Top 15, Chestnut Hill College received votes in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/Nike Division II Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Preseason Poll. The Griffins, who also garnered votes in the 2016 USLIA preseason poll, finished last season 6-7 overall and 4-4 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play.

Defending National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Champions, Le Moyne College garnered 18 first-place votes to lead the USILA preseason poll with 360 total points. Runner-up, Limestone College, finished second with 337 points. In addition to Chestnut Hill College, Florida Southern College, Lynn University, St. Anselm College, Queens College, Wingate University, St. Leo University, Southern New Hampshire University, Bentley University, and Wheeling Jesuit University were also listed as receiving votes from the professional coaching constituency. Fellow ECC members appearing in the poll include #5 New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), #7 LIU Post, #13 Mercy College, and #18 Molloy College.

In 2016, junior attack Alec Dambach (Howell, N.J.) was the star of the show for Chestnut Hill College, collecting the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) honors and a selection to the All-ECC Second Team. En route, he tied Scarlet and Gold great Michael Melnychenko ’14 for the program’s all-time single-season point total of 57 (37 goals and 20 assists). Fellow captain, defenseman, Derick Darnulc ’16 was also an All-ECC Second Team selection, earning his fourth straight all-league honor on the strength of seven points (four goals and three assists), 29 ground balls, and 12 caused turnovers. Now a senior, defenseman James DeCarlo (Conshohocken, Pa.) earned the men’s lacrosse Coach’s Award.

The 2017 Chestnut Hill College men’s lacrosse schedule opens on Saturday, February 25, with a 1:00 p.m. faceoff at Post University. ECC plays begins on Saturday, March 11, with a trip to LIU Post.
