Cabrini University is proud to announce that it will add seven members – including men’s lacrosse student-athlete and former Springfield-Delco coach Michael Friel ’98 – to its Athletic Hall of Fame during an induction ceremony on Friday, September 22 in Nerney Field House at the Dixon Center.
“It will be an honor to commemorate these seven individuals this Fall,” said Cabrini Director of Athletics and Recreation Brad Koch. “Their illustrious careers as student-athletes and coaches speak volumes to their dedication and commitment while wearing the Blue and White.
“We look forward to sharing this honor alongside their families and friends and adding to an esteemed group that makes up our Hall of Fame.”
The Hall’s ninth induction class will include former men’s soccer student-athlete Tom DeMatteis ’84, former women’s tennis student-athlete Carolyn Geonnotti Wilson ’08, former men’s basketball coaches Mike Keely and Joe Kelly, former women’s basketball student-athlete Mary Beth Senkewicz ’76, and former three sport student-athlete Michael Tims ’95.
Despite not playing for nearly 20 years, Michael Friel (1994-98) remains ranked among the statistical leaders for the men’s lacrosse program. Friel posted 166 points on 86 goals and 80 assists. His 2.22 assists per game currently rank second on the Blue and White’s all-time list.
Friel was head coach at Springfield-Delco from 2004-10 and led the Cougars to a 99-42 mark, including the Central League title and a berth in the District 1 championship game in 2010. Friel became Athletic Director at Radnor in 2010 and remains in that job.
