The University of Cincinnati Department of Athletics recently honored senior midfielder Schuyler Nissen (Germantown Friends) with a major academic honor at the 17th Annual Legion of Excellence Gala inside the Nippert Stadium West Pavilion.

Schuyler Nissen (left) was honored with the Legion of Excellence by the University of Cincinnati; she is joined by coach Gina Oliver (Pottstown)

UC celebrated the achievement of its scholar-athletes, inducted a pair of former student-athletes into the UC James P. Kelly Sr. Athletics Hall of Fame, honored a new recipient of the Strubbe Distinguished Service Award and named new inductees to the Order of the Black Blazer.

The Legion of Excellence is based on the highest cumulative grade-point average on each Cincinnati Bearcat team for the previous school year and good academic standing within the individual’s athletics team and college.

Nissen was an All-Big East Academic All American in 2017 when she started all 17 games for Cincinnati and collected 42 draw controls (second on team), 37 groundballs (second on team) and 15 caused turnovers as well as three goals.

Nissen’s coach is Pottstown alum Gina Oliver, a former All-World member of Team USA.
