Monica Borzillo collected five goals and four assists and Hannah Ashton added four goals as host Conestoga defeated Garnet Valley, 15-10, tonight to take a major step toward a second straight Central League championship.
The defending league champion Pioneers, No. 1 in the Phillylacrosse.com Rankings, improved to 13-0 overall and 9-0 in the Central League with games remaining against Penncrest and Upper Darby. No. 3 Garnet Valley fell to 12-2 overall and 7-2 in the league.
The Pioneers led 11-5, at halftime and staved off a late Garnet Valley rally which brought the Jaguars as close as 13-10 with 7 and a half minutes to play. But Ashton scored twice in the final minutes to close the scoring.
Emily Mathewson had three goals and two assists and Camryn Faith had three goals to lead the Jags. Liz Scott and Paige Loose each had two goals while Maggie Gladden added a goal and an assist and Jules Horning posted nine saves for the Pioneers.
