Conestoga used a 14-1 run to close the first half and open the second half before rolling to a 17-6 rout of Kennard-Dale Saturday at Avon Grove in the PIAA girls’ quarterfinals.
The Pioneers (22-1, ranked No. 2 by Phillylacrosse.com) advance to the state semifinals Tuesday vs. Mt. Lebanon (a 13-8 winner over Chartiers Valley) at Cumberland Valley at noon. Kennard-Dale, the District 3 champion, closes at 23-2.
Conestoga fell behind, 2-1, before taking control and seizing an 11-3 halftime lead. The Pioneers scored the first four goals of the second half and led, 15-3, with 14:50 to play.
Monica Borzillo scored four goals and added four assists for the Pioneers while Sondra Dickey (three assists), Maggie Gladden, Paige Loose, Liz Scott, Amelia Kienzle and Rilee Scott each added two goals. Hannah Ashton scored once. Jules Horning had nine saves and two caused turnovers.
