Shipley School earned a trip to its first Friends Schools League girls’ lacrosse championship game Friday when it toppled host Germantown Friends, 19-9, in the semifinals.
Shipley (9-6), under first-year coach Molly Fernandez, will face host and defending champion Friends’ Central Tuesday in the title game at 4 p.m.
After losing to a talented Germantown Friends in overtime earlier in the season, Shipley came out strong from the start and did not let up. It was a total team effort with six different players scoring. Ashleigh Gundy led with six goals and Kate Scut had five while Jenna Litner tallied four and goals and two assists. Anna Camden had a goal and an assist and Elizabeth Talluto scored once. Gundy dominated on draw controls allowing Shipley to dominate possessions.
A strong defensive effort led by Emily Talluto and Grace Gordan helped the Gators limited Germantown Friends’ attack. Shipley goalie Grace Donnelly had a stellar game with 10 saves.
Friends’ Central (10-8) advanced with a 16-8 win over Moorestown Friends.
