Kevin Todd collected four goals and one assist and goalie Chris Morgan registered 14 saves as five-time defending PAC-10 champion Spring-Ford opened its boys’ lacrosse season with a 9-3 victory over Avon Grove Saturday.

The Rams seized control early, racing out to a 5-0 lead by halftime as Jake Hvazda added two goals and one assist, Jarred Marenger had a goal and an assist and Liam Hare scored once.

Alex Hirsh tallied the game winner as the Vikings improved to 2-0 and gained a thrilling win at the Under Armour complex at Banner Field in Baltimore’s Locust Point.

Jack Phelan added two goals and an assist, Joe Guarnere tallied two goals and Billy Kyle posted 17 saves while Joe Sivo stood out at the FO X. Solid defensive efforts were turned in by Collin Murray, Jack Wolov, and Devin Gilligan.

St. John’s (4-3) is coached by West Chester East grad Bobby Horsey, who starred at Loyola and played for the MLL champion Philadelphia Barrage. Horsey also is a life long friend of East coach Jim Schorn.

Ridley 9, Great Valley 8

Brock Anderson scored four goals and Cade Stratton had a pair while Brendan Risley posted eight saves and Cade Heverly won 13 of 19 face offs for the Raiders (1-1).

Shipley School 12, Martin County (FL) 11

Colton Gallo had 15 saves, many coming in the fourth quarter, and the Gators opened with a win in Florida.

The Shipley scoring was led by Frank Campanale (three goals), Tate Gallagher (two goals, one assists), Pete Moeller (two goals, one assist) and Nick Yi (two goals).

Downingtown East 9, Springfield-Delco 8

Jack Mulcahy, Brooks Poli and Drew Rafferty weach had two goals and Brody Wilson made 11 saves for the DE Cougars.

Mike Gerzabek led the SF Cougars with three goals and an assist.

Strath Haven 11, Henderson 1

Jeffrey Conner collected three goals and four assists and Jake Ross had three goals and an assist for the Panthers while Will Brake made 13 saves.

Wilson 12, Owen J. Roberts 8

Ben Gindhart collected two goals and three assists and Austin Delgatto had a pair of goals but it wasn’t enough as the Wildcats fell to the Bulldogs in their season opener at West Lawn.

Adam Close had four goals and three assists for Wilson.
