The inaugural United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) draft was held Wednesday night as the four teams – Baltimore Ride, Boston Storm, Long Island Sound and Philadelphia Force – selected the top 40 with 10 players per team.

The draft had eight rounds with the first six rounds featuring one pick per team, while teams selected two players each in the last two rounds. By random drawing, the order of draft picks were announced by UWLX commissioner Michele DeJuliis as follows: Baltimore, Long Island, Philadelphia and Boston.

The No. 1 overall draft pick for the Ride was two-time Tewaaraton recipient and standout Maryland midfielder Katie Schwarzmann. The Philadelphia Force selected former Syracuse attacker Michelle Tumolo with the third pick and later
added Philly products Bridget Bianco (Moorestown/Northwestern grad, goalie) and Emily Garrity (Strath Haven, UNC, midfielder, 2009 Phillylacrosse.com Player of the Year).

All 17 current members of the U.S. women’s national team that entered the UWLX player pool were chosen among the top 40 across the four squads.
