From Press Release

The University of Pennsylvania’s James H. Greene, Jr. Head Coach of Men’s Lacrosse, Mike Murphy, has announced the Quakers’ 2017 schedule. Penn’s 13-game slate features five home games, a meeting with High Point in Baltimore, and a return to the ACC Championship to meet one of that conference’s powerful programs. This year’s ACC Championship will take place at Koskinen Stadium on the campus of Duke University. Three teams on this year’s schedule played in last year’s NCAA Championship: Yale (first-round), Navy (quarterfinalist) and Brown (semifinalist).

“We are very excited about our 2017 schedule,” said Murphy, who enters his eighth season as Penn’s head coach. “We consistently try to schedule the best opponents available and feel that this 2017 schedule is consistent with that. It’s great to add a team like Navy which brings a strong program, a rich tradition, and a first class institution. Our Ivy slate will be extremely challenging, as usual, including home games against Princeton, Yale and Dartmouth. Our regular season will culminate with the ACC Championship game, which will be a great experience for our student-athletes. We have our work cut out for us, but we are up for the challenge and excited to work hard in preparation for the 2017 season.”

Ticket information for the 2017 season will be released in early January.

Penn is coming off a 2016 season in which it went 8-7 against a schedule that ranked the 18th-toughest in the country and ended with a one-goal loss to Yale in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal round.

at Saint Joseph’s (Saturday, Feb. 18) – The Hawks won for the first time in 13 meetings between these programs last year, taking a 9-8 overtime decision at Penn’s Rhodes Field … This will be the eighth-straight year Penn and SJU have met, with two of the last three being decided by a goal and the last two needing overtime (Penn won 11-10 at SJU in 2015).

High Point (Tuesday, Feb. 21) – This neutral-site game will be played in the Baltimore area, site TBA … This will mark the first meeting in men’s lacrosse between the Quakers and the Panthers, who went 9-6 last year.

VIRGINIA (Saturday, Feb. 25) – Third-straight year these two programs have met and the fifth time since 2011 … UVA won last year’s game, 15-10, in Charlottesville … Two years ago, the Cavaliers gained a 12-6 win at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa. … These teams have met eight times since 1929; however, this will mark UVA’s first trip to Franklin Field to face the Quakers.

at Penn State (Saturday, March 4) – This will mark the third-straight year these teams have met; prior to that, they hadn’t met since 1977 … Nittany Lions lead series, 22-13, but the Quakers won last year’s game at Franklin Field, 11-7.

NAVY (Tuesday, March 7) – This will be the 49th meeting between these programs, but the first in the regular season since 1999 … The only other matchup this century came in 2004, an 11-5 Navy win in the NCAA Championship first round in Annapolis … The Midshipmen, NCAA quarterfinalists a year ago, lead the overall series 43-5 including four NCAA wins over the Quakers (1975, 1977, 1985, 2004).

at Michigan (Saturday, March 11) – These teams met for the first time last year, opening the season at Franklin Field in a game that Penn won, 12-10.

PRINCETON* (Saturday, March 18) – Penn has won two of the last three meetings between these teams at Franklin Field, and three of the last six overall … Last year the Quakers set a record for goals in a game against the Tigers in a 20-10 win at Princeton.

at Cornell* (Saturday, March 25) – The Quakers have won two of the last three meetings with the Big Red, with the loss coming two years ago in Ithaca in triple overtime … Penn is looking for its first win in Ithaca since 1997.

YALE* (Saturday, April 1) – Ten of the last 12 meetings between these teams have been decided by two or fewer goals, with five of them going overtime … The Quakers and Bulldogs met twice last year, with Yale winning 11-10 in overtime during the regular season and then again 7-6 in an Ivy League Tournament semifinal … Yale was an NCAA Championship participant last year.

at Brown* (Saturday, April 8) – The Quakers had won three in a row over the Bears before losing to them last year … Brown, which leads the overall series 32-22, was an NCAA semifinalist a year ago

at Harvard* (Saturday, April 15) – The Quakers have won four in a row over the Crimson, five of the last six, and seven of the last nine … That said, of the most recent four wins three were by a goal and the fourth was by two goals … Penn is 3-1 in its four most recent games against Harvard in Cambridge, including a 10-9 decision two years ago.

DARTMOUTH* (Saturday, April 22) – Penn leads the series, 42-27, and has won four in a row and nine of the last 11 … The Quakers have won five-straight over the Big Green at Franklin Field, last losing in 2005.

ACC Championship (Saturday, April 29) – For the second time in three years, Penn will meet the ACC’s fifth-place team on Saturday of the ACC’s Championship weekend … Two years ago, Penn fell 12-6 to Virginia in this game when the tournament was held at Talen Energy Stadium outside Philadelphia.

POSTSEASON – Once again this year, the top four teams in the Ivy League standings at the end of the regular season will play in the Ivy League Tournament, which will run May 5 and 7 at the home of the regular-season champion … First-round NCAA Championship play begins May 13 and 14, with quarterfinal games taking place Saturday, May 20 at Hofstra University and Sunday, May 21 at the University of Delaware … The annual NCAA Championship Weekend will run Memorial Day weekend, May 27 and 29, at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
