The Neumann University men’s lacrosse team volunteered for several hours at Stockings for Soldiers in Wilmington, DE on Wednesday and stuffed over 500 stockings.
The community service projects was a hit for all involved.
“I think it really puts things in perspective when you do something like this,” said senior midfielder Tylar Schlimm. “Sometimes you take your friends and family for granted during the holidays and than there’s men and women fighting overseas who choose protecting us over having the luxury of being home.
“It’s awesome to be able to take just two hours out of your day and realize how much this could positively effect someone receiving it.”
Freshman defenseman Alex Rucci added, “I had a great time volunteering for Stockings for Soldiers. All of the people there were passionate and were emotionally invested in what they were doing, and by seeing a local Marine and officer come by, it was great to see how much they appreciated it. It was truly a humbling experience. I am looking forward to doing this next year with my teammates.”
Assistant Coach Evan Zielinski (’14 Grad) said the team learned a greater purpose with the experience.
“With everything that is going on in our country today, it is imperative for our guys to understand the importance of impacting the lives of others, especially the men and women protecting our freedom who cannot be home for the holidays,” he said. “I always tell our guys to cherish the little things in life because you never know what life may bring you.
“I truly believe that this was an eye-opening experience for our guys which will persuade them to continue to give back and be active throughout the community.”
