The Drexel women’s lacrosse team (5-1) defeated the Villanova Wildcats (1-5) on Saturday evening on the Main Line after the Dragons overcame a four-goal deficit in the second half to win 9-8.
The women trailed 6-2 at halftime and went on a 7-2 run in the second half led by four goals off the stick of senior captain Emily Duffey (Lenape) to earn the nonconfernce win. Junior Lauren Gerrie also added two second-half goals.
Jackie Froccaro led the ‘Cats with three goals and two assists.
Delaware 13, Canisius 4
The Blue Hens (5-1) continued to share the offensive wealth in a rout of the Griffins.
Junior Kirsten Hale (Great Valley) notched a career-high four goals for her second hat trick of the year while classmate Coley Ricci (Garnet Valley) registered her first career hat trick.
Freshman Caroline Farley (Shawnee) also had a multiple-goal game and finished the day with a season-best two goals.
Senior Casey Lyons dished out four assists to go along with a goal of her own.
In total, nine Blue Hens logged at least one point against the Griffs.
Defensively, Erin Wein nearly doubled her previous career-game by tallying seven caused turnovers. With the total, Wein became the first player in program history to break the century mark in caused turnovers and now has 102 for her career.
The senior added two draw controls and two groundballs for the Hens, who improve to 5-1 on the year. Wein has now also broken the century mark with 100 career groundballs.
Sophomore Taylor Carpentier (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) picked up her third eight-save contest of the year while grabbing three groundballs.
Tessa Chad led Canisius (1-2) with one goal, one assist, one groundball and one caused turnover. Megan Maloney and Brenna Shanahan recorded three groundballs a piece. Ellen Newton earned her first career start in the cage and allowed 13 goals with four saves.
