The University of Vermont will add 14 newcomers, including South Burlington, Vermont native Sarah Fisher, to the program for th 2015-16 season. Head coach Jen Johnson announced her incoming class today.
“We are excited about the addition of such a talented class of student-athletes and are eagerly awaiting the start of another season,” said Johnson. “We will be young, but this incoming class adds speed, skill, grit and depth to the program. This class will help us build on the momentum we have going after reaching the America East Semifinals for the third straight year last season.”
Ava Schwemler – Freshman | Midfield | 5-1 | Philadelphia, Pennsylvania/Germantown Friends School
Comes to Vermont after attending Germantown Friends School located in her hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania … She tallied over 100 career goals at Germantown … Named the team’s most improved player in 2013 … She helped lead the team a league championship in 2014 and was chosen for the all-league first team … She was an all-league honorable mention selection in 2015 … She received the Under Armor All-American non-commit honor in 2014 … She finished up her senior season as the team’s leading scorer and ranked second in assists.
Jenny Caoili – Freshman | Attack | 5-8 | Lagrangeville, New York/Arlington
A native of Lagrangeville, New York, Caoili played at Arlington High School … Was a four-time all-league selection … Named to the Poughkeepsie Journal All-Star Team all four years … Earned all-second honors her final three years … Owns the Arlington school records for most goals (170) and points (250) in a career … Ranks second all-time in assists (80) and ground balls (142).
Marjorie Dehm – Freshman | Attack | 5-8 | Baldwinsville, New York/Charles W. Baker
Comes to Vermont from Baldwinsville, New York and Charles W. Baker High School … In 2013, led the team to the New York State Section III Class A Championship, the Regional Class A Championship and the Class A Finals, where the team finished as runner-up … Was voted the team’s most improved player in 2013 and earned CNYCL National League Second Team honors … Earned CNYCL honors for a second time in 2014 and participated in the Brine All-America Lacrosse Classic … Picked up her third CNYCL National League honor as a senior … Was a three-time New York State Scholar-Athlete … Registered 98 points on 75 goals and 23 assists over her final three seasons of her high school career.
Maya Ebrahimnejad – Freshman | Midfield/Attack | 5-4 | Wilmington, North Carolina/Loudon Valley
Ebrahimnejad (pronounced eb-rah-hem-ne-jhad) is a native of Wilmington, North Carolina and played at Loudon Valley High School … She was a three-time team captain and led the squad to the AAA Conference Championship in 2015 … In 2014, she led the team to the District Championship and the State Finals where they finished as runner-up … She was named to the first team all-conference and was recognized as the all-area girls lacrosse player of the year in 2015 … She scored a career-high 49 goals as a senior and finished her high school career with 144 goals, 42 assists and 186 points.
Sarah Fisher – Freshman | Midfield | 6-0 | South Burlington, Vermont/South Burlington
Fisher comes to UVM from nearby South Burlington, Vermont and South Burlington High School … Was the MVP of the state championship game three consecutive years, leading South Burlington to three straight state titles … Was team MVP three times … Earned High School All-America honors as a senior … Also was a four-time all-state honoree … She finished her career as the all-time leader in assists at South Burlington High School with 98 for her career.
Catherine Green – Freshman | Goalie | 5-3 | Merrimack, New Hampshire/Derryfield School
Green comes to Vermont from Merrimack, New Hampshire and attended the Derryfield School … She helped Derryfield win the state title in 2012 and 2014 … The 2014 team went undefeated … Derryfield reached the semifinals of the state tournament in 2013 and the finals in 2015, finishing as the runner-up … A two-time all-state selection, she was named to the Twin State All-Star Team in 2015 … She was named Derryfield’s Athlete of the Year as a senior … In 2013 and 2014 she was named to the NH/VT National Tournament Team … In 2012, she was named the team’s rookie of the year and was given the captains award … She posted a .730 save percentage and registered 106 saves as a senior.
Avery Hogarth – Freshman | Defense | 5-7 | Mississauga, Ontario/The Hill Academy
Hogarth comes to Vermont from Mississauga, Ontario after attending The Hill Academy … She served as team captain and the squad was ranked in the top-20 nationally … She received the award for team’s defensive player of the year and strength and conditioning award … She is a member of the Canadian National Lacrosse Team and helped the U19 sqauad win its first ever gold medal at the FIL Women’s World Cup in Edinburgh, Scotland during the summer of 2015.
Jenna Janes – Freshman | Attack | 5-4 | Baltimore, Maryland/Roland Park Country School
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Janes attended Roland Park Country School where she was the second highest goal scorer in the B Conference with 82 goals and 57 assists her freshman year in 2012 … She earned the Roland Parks’ Unsung Hero Award … Helped lead the Park Bruins to a championship and the Roland Park Reds to a championship her junior and senior year … She was named to the Roland Park Messenger All-Metro Second Team … Named a B Conference All-Star … She was the highest leading scorer for the Park Bruins her freshman year and led the team in assists as a senior.
Madeline Kuras – Freshman | Goalie | 5-3 | Maple Grove, Minnesota/Osseo Senior High
Kuras comes to Vermont from Maple Grove, Minnesota where she attended Osseo Senior High … She was team captain in 2014 and 2015 and led the team to the Section Finals in 2015 … She was recognized as the team MVP for the 2012 and 2013 seasons … She was named Ms. Goalie of the Year in 2015 … She earned Star-Tribune All-Metro Goalie and Star-Tribune All-Metro Team honors in 2015 … Kuras was named to the all-conference team in 2013 and 2015 and was an all-conference honorable mention selection in 2011 and 2012 … She is the first lacrosse athlete to commit to a Division I program in her school district.
Micaela O’Mara – Freshman | Defense | 5-9 | Queensbury, New York/Queensbury
O’Mara comes to Vermont after a four-year career at Queensbury High School located in her hometown of Queensbury, New York … Was named the team MVP in 2014 … O’Mara lead her team to the New York Sectional Championship in 2012 and the NY Sectional Finals in 2013 and 2015 … As a senior, she earned the 2015 Chronicle Athlete of the Week and was named the 2015 Outstanding Senior Athlete.
Kaite Remien – Freshman | Defense | 5-6 | Winnetka, Illinois/New Trier/Holderness School
Remien spent two years at New Trier High School in her hometown of Winnetka, Illinois before anttending Holderness Prep School in Plymouth, New Hampshire for her last three years … Has three other siblings, two sisters and a brother, who have played lacrosse at Vermont prior to her attending the University.
Missy Riccio – Freshman | Midfield | 5-4 | Winchester, Mass./Winchester
Is a native of Winchester, Massachusetts and played at Winchester High School … Led Winchester to the Middlesex League and Division 2 North Championships in 2013 … Also named to the Brine National Team during her career … Was a two-time Middlesex League First Team All-Star (2014, 2015) … Earned All-Eastern Massachusetts honors twice … Garnered a spot on the Boston Herald All-Scholastic Team in 2015 and was a Brine National All-Star in 2015 … Was named to the Agganis All-Star Team in 2015 … Finished her high school career with 94 goals and 32 assists.
Alexandra Vignona – Freshman | Attack | 5-5 | Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville
A native of Stony Brook, New York, Vignona attended Melville High School in East Setauket, New York … She finished her high school career with 130 points including 21 goals and 30 assists as a senior … Scored a career-high 28 goals and added 32 assists as a junior … She was named team captain in 2015 and one of the top 100 female lacrosse players on Long Island in 2014 … She was a two-time all-country selection (2014 & 2015).
Brynne Yarranton – Junior | Attack | 5-9 | Toronto, Ontario/University of Toronto Schools/Boston University
Comes to Vermont after two seasons at Boston University … Played in nine games over two years with the Terriers and scored two goals … Member of the U19 Canadian National Team that won a bronze medal at the 2011 FIL Women’s World Lacrosse Championship and helped Canada win its first ever gold medal at the 2015 FIL World Championships in July of 2015 … Won two silver medals in the Ontario Provincial Senior Division with her club team, the Brampton Excelsiors.
