“I am extremely excited to announce our captains for the 2016 season,” Adams said. “Katrina and Maddy have such contrasting leadership traits that together, they provide our team with immeasurable balance and depth.

“As a coach, you are always looking for people who serve their team selflessly, with passion and a clear vision. I am very confident that Katrina and Maddy will help lead our team to a successful season both on and off the field.”

Adams also announced that senior Maddy Lesher (Archbishop Carroll), senior Molly Wolf and junior Bailey Mathis will join with Blakeman and Geiger to form the team’s leadership council.

“With such a youthful roster this year, we saw an opportunity to tap into the unique leadership qualities of some of our veteran players,” Adams said. “This specific group will aid the captains in working to achieve a full 360-degree leadership, while continuing to develop their personal skill set throughout the season.”

Geiger played in 12 games last season, missing 10 due to injury. During her freshman campaign, in 2013, the midfielder from Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, scored nine goals and added 33 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. After redshirting her sophomore season, Geiger returned to contribute six goals, 19 ground balls and 19 draw controls last season. With two seasons of eligibility remaining, Geiger has career totals of 15 goals, 52 ground balls, 42 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers.

Blakeman, an attacker from Vero Beach, Florida, has played in 52 games throughout her career, including all 22 a year ago. Throughout her career, she’s contributed 29 goals, 13 ground balls and nine caused turnovers. With 17 goals as a midfielder last season, Blakeman was one of seven Greyhounds to reach double-digits in goals and is Loyola’s top-returning scorer.

Throughout the past three seasons, Loyola has posted an overall record of 43-20, including a 22-2 mark in conference games and a 20-8 record at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Greyhounds have also won back-to-back Patriot League titles and advanced to the NCAA Tournament appearance all three years year.

Loyola will open its 2016 season at Florida on Saturday, Feb. 6. The entire spring schedule has yet to be released.
