Mike Drake (Salesianum School) scored off a Bryce Reid (Avon Grove) feed in the final two minutes as the Dukes L.C. 1 edged Tri-State Black, 10-9, tonight in the semifinals of Champ Camp at Johns Hopkins University’s Homewood Field.
Dukes 1, the three-time defending champion, shoots for its ninth title in the last 10 years at Champ Camp Saturday when it faces the Black Rhinos (OR) for the crown at 12:15 p.m. at Homewood.
The Dukes, who are 8-0 overall, defeated the Rhinos (7-1), 8-4, on Thursday. Both teams emerged from Pool A.
The Black Rhinos defeated Ridgewood 1, 6-2, in the semifinals.
For the Dukes, Reid, Forry Smith (Haverford School) and Adam Goldner (Malvern Prep) each had two goals and an assist while Kevin Stemp (St. Joseph’s Prep) and Brett Baskin (La Salle) each scored once. Jason Yoquinto (Bishop Shanahan) was a standout in goal with 13 saves. Dukes 1 led, 6-4, at halftime.
“I really have to say that Tri-State is very, very strong club organization and we have had these battles for so many years with them,” said Dukes head coach Ebe Helm. “It’s just a nice, nice win over a very classy coach in MV Whitlow.”
