The Rising Sons 212 claimed the Bronze Medal in the recent NDP Lacrosse Dick’s Tournament of Champions U11 tourney at Wesley Chapel, Fl.
The team went undefeated in pool play, earning a fourth seed for the playoff round. After beating FCS South in the round of 16, the team faced Palm Beach Revolution for a second time.
In pool play the Rising Sons beat Palm Beach 3-1; but the quarterfinal proved to be an even tougher game. The Sons held a halftime lead, but Palm Beach stormed back and the second half became a back and forth affair.
With less than a minute to play defenseman Jake Brownley ran the length of the field and finished a left hander to send the game into overtime. Justin Turley won the opening face-off, allowing Eric Spanos to dodge from X and score for the thrilling overtime victory and a birth in the Final Four.
While the team fell to IGLOO, the eventual tournament winner, the Sons came back and easily defeated the Tampa Tarpons to claim Third Place and the Bronze Medal.
