From Press Release
Registration remains open for tryouts for the International Lacrosse Challenge featuring Team Stars and Stripes vs. Team Maple Leafs and other international teams.
Attention: Players in grad years 2016, 2017 and 2018. Welcome to the 2015 Team Stars and Stripes tryouts, for Philly region and surrounding players at Shipley School on June 18.
As many of you are well aware, last year we challenged TEAM MAPLE LEAFS of Canada in their 2015, 2016 and 2017 grad years to an international border BATTLE challenge.
Each of the games were very competitive and to really get a true feeling for playing on a team like this, you need simply inquire with the limited group of players selected that played on it last year at which point you will likely hear them beam with pride.
This year, we intend on competing once again against Canada’s Team Maple Leafs and in addition, there will likely be teams from Israel, and from Europe competing. trying out for this team and actually making it will most likely not interfere with any other clubs or events you are doing this summer, and it is certainly an honor to make this team and compete. And, while it is not a recruiting event, there will be college coaches attending and certainly making this team is an honor.
While the sport of lacrosse in the US is simply experiencing robust growth, Canada’s field lacrosse is growing equally as rapidly along with their leadership position in box lacrosse and now Israel is seeking to make lacrosse their national sport along with tremendous growth throughout Europe.

“Last year’s inaugural Stars and Stripes International Border Challenge was a huge success. It was not only a tremendous coaching experience for me, but most importantly, the players who participated made it known that it was one of the best lacrosse endeavors that they had been part of in terms of the outstanding competition they competed against as well as the special camaraderie that they had developed amongst their teammates. Based on my 40 years of unique lacrosse coaching experience at the secondary, collegiate and professional levels, I would absolutely urge and recommend any aspiring secondary school level lacrosse player to be part of this unique lacrosse opportunity as a way to represent the United States against exceptional International competition.” – TED GARBER

At this point, we are building our list of player evaluators at each of the tryout locations. we have compiled the a team for regional evaporators that represent the leading high schools and clubs in each region, many of which you will know by reputation. This highly accomplished diverse group of lacrosse coaches will be part of evaluation of players at these tryouts.
Evaluating talent and skill in the lacrosse community is a very difficult task but based on the interest already generated, we believe everyone will be granted a fair evaluation regardless of the region they are from, high school they play for or the club they are associated with, and we urge everyone that believe they are strong players to attend the tryout.

Canada is a powerhouse in box lacrosse and its national sport is lacrosse. Its players are now, more than ever, competing for roster spots in top US college lacrosse programs and they recently won the international FIL tournament in Denver. We launched a high school challenge last year and the games were very close at every grad year…of the 3 grad years, Stars and Stripes were victorious in two and were defeated in one of our grad years, but all games were close. This year, we are seeking to sweep and we will be hosting tryouts throughout the northeast hotbeds to identify the strongest players seeking to compete.
Due to demand, we are further considering having players elect to play for team Shamrocks (Ireland) and team Gladiators (Italy) as we assemble the international field to compete. This is not a college recruiting event but it is expected to have a strong turnout of college coaches attend and we will provide college coaches player information.
Tryouts for the Team Stars and Stripes, Team Shamrocks and Team Gladiators will take place in select venues throughout Eastern USA.
After the teams are selected, the teams will compete on July 27-28th in a fantastic international competition in upstate, NY.
