Sophomore Olivia Hompe scored four goals to lead the No. 11 Princeton women’s lacrosse team to an 8-4 win over Drexel on Wednesday night.
Devin Nihill scored two goals for the Dragons, her second-consecutive multi-goal game. Milan White (Pottstown) and Lacey Aghazarian added scores, while Emily Duffey (lenape) had an assist. Teresha Bradley (Rancocas Valley) stopped an early-season high eight shots. Olivia Hompe scored four times to pace the Tigers.
Within the first 10 minutes of the game, the Tigers had taken five shots and converted on three of them, grabbing a 3-0 lead. Erin Slifer had a goal and an assist in that span. Down 3-0, the Dragons steadied themselves, and began running their offense and getting shots at the net. In all, Drexel would get off five shots in the first half, all of which tested Princeton goalie Ellie DeGarmo. DeGarmo passed the test each time, though, coming up with five first-half saves and keeping Drexel off the board.
After neither team scored for more than 17 minutes, the Tigers came up with another goal, Hompe’s second, at the 2:49 mark. They followed it up with a score 1:16 later to send themselves into halftime up 5-0.
