PIAA state championships today: At a Glance

PIAA Championships today at HersheyPark Stadium

Girls, noon

Conestoga vs. Garnet Valley

Conestoga: 23-3, Central League champion, District 1 fourth-place finisher, ranked No. 3 by Phillylacrosse.com. Defeated Radnor, 9-4, in state semis.
Garnet Valley: 17-9, Central League fifth-place finisher, District 1 fifth-place finisher, ranked No. 9 by Phillylacrosse.com. Defeated Quaker Valley, 13-10, in state semis.

Meetings this year: Conestoga won, 13-11, on April 28 in regular-season game

State championship history: Garnet Valley won PIAA titles in 2011, 2012, 2014. Conestoga won District 1, Class AAA titles in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005 (these titles are considered unofficial state titles since the PIAA did not sanction lacrosse until 2009).

Boys, 2:30 p.m.

St. Joseph’s Prep vs. Radnor

St. Joseph’s Prep: 19-5, Catholic League champion, District 12 champion, ranked No. 6 by Phillylacrosse.com. Defeated Cumberland Valey, 19-7, in state semis.

Radnor: 20-6, Central League third-place finisher, District 1 third-place finisher, ranked No. 5 by Phillylacrosse.com. Defeated Springfield-Delco, 12-5, in state semis.

Meetings this year: None

State championship history: St. Joseph’s Prep fell to Conestoga, 13-4, in 2011 title game. Radnor has never played in a state title game, but reached the 2003 EPSLA (Eastern finals) in 2003, bowing to eventual state champion (non-PIAA sanctioned) Ridley, 11-4.
