It was a game for the ages.
Visiting and 14th-ranked Penn overcame deficits of 7-0 (first quarter) and 9-4 after three quarters and surged back for a stunning 11-10 overtime victory over city rival St. Joseph’s University.
The game also featured a large amount of standout performances by Philly grads that dominate both rosters.
Nick Doktor scored on a brilliant individual effort with 51 seconds left in overtime to give Penn a 2-0 record.
Another star was photographer Rene Schleicher, who braved near-zero temperatures to shoot the entire game and produce these amazing pictures.

Philly players did the following:
For Penn:
Joe McCallion (Haverford School) had three goals, one assist and three groundballs
Goalie John Lopes (Conestoga) made 3 saves – including one big on in the OT period – and yielded only 2 second-half goals
Kevin Gayhardt (Episcopal Academy) had three groundballs and two caused turnovers
Chris Hupfeldt (Haverford School) had a goal and an assist
Middie Sam Rohr (Haverford School) had a groundball
Attackman Tyler Earley (Penn Charter) had a groundball
Chris Hilburn (Malvern Prep) had a groundball and a caused turnover
Zach Penfil (Garnet Valley) won 4 of 6 face-offs
Freshman Reilly Hupfeldt (Haverford School) scored once
Freshman long-stick middie Connor Keating (Haverford School) scored once and had a groundball and caused turnover
Freshman Kevin McGeary (Malvern Prep) scored once



For Saint Joseph’s:
Kevin Forster (La Salle College High) had two goals and one assist
Pat Swanick (St. Joseph’s Prep) had a goal and five groundballs
Ray Vandegrift (Penn Charter) scored once
Mike Lanham (Garnet Valley) won 10-of-19 face=offs
Will Farrell (St. Joseph’s Prep) had four groundballs and two caused turnovers
Kevin Barrow (Avon Grove) had two groundballs and a caused turnover
Jack Moran (Malvern Prep) had two groundballs and a caused turnover
Mike Dougherty (Malvern Prep) had a groundball
