Kevin Todd’s goal with 4:30 left in the championship game of the High School AA title Saturday at the Philadelphia Indoor Lacrosse Championships put NXT 2016 in position to complete an upset victory.
“We should have won,” said NXT head coach Bill Derrick.

Instead, Everest Academy of Ontario, Canada scored three goals to rally for a dramatic 6-5 win and claim its third straight box lacrosse tournament title at the SportsPlex in Feasterville.
“I can’t be happy after a loss,” said Todd, of Spring-Ford. “But the team played very well to get as far as we did here. I’m proud of all the way we played throughout the tournament.”
The goal by Todd put his team ahead, 5-3, late in the second half. Also scoring for NXT were Ryan Terefenko (Wilson, Ohio State commit), Ryan Kinnard (Penncrest, Hofstra), Brant Alan Pittman (Conestoga, PA) and Michael Nelson (Southern Lehigh, Vermont).

“Overall, I thought we played well,” said Terefenko. “We nearly knocked off the favorite.”

According to Terefenko, the defense carried the team through the tournament, including a semifinal win over JAGS Lax, of Garnet Valley.
“Our defense shut everybody down,” he said. “It was something to be proud of.”
