From Press Release
Kate Henwood didn’t waste any time setting the tone for what NXTlacrosse Girls is going to be.
Henwood had a clear-cut vision for what the first NXT LC Girls Exposure Night would look like at Garnet Valley, home of the four-time PIAA champions. Henwood coached the program’s first two state champion teams in 2011 and 2012 before taking over at NCAA Division I UC-Davis, so coming back to her old stomping grounds figured to bring out a large crowd.
Seventy-two players later, that was a success. Those 72 players drove in from all areas of the tri-state area to learn more about what NXTlacrosse Girls will be all about this fall. Tryouts are scheduled for August 29-30 at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken. Henwood also used the Exposure Night as a chance to unveil her star-studded and dedicated coaching staff, which led to even more excitement about NXT’s girls club.
“We took the girls through just about everything that they would do in a practice,” Henwood said. “They got to go through a warmup that combined speed training, ACL injury prevention and dynamic stretching before they rotated through age-specific skill stations. They got to work on man-up and man-down situations, defensive footwork basics and shooting drills. We also had our younger players play skill-building games like egg hunt ground balls and Need One, Got One.
“Our mission was to expose these players to our brand and personality as a club. We presented our exciting curriculum, introduced our knowledgable staff, and the energy was inspiring. Players these days are lucky to have a choice in their club decision, but I am confident that after the Exposure Night, these girls are excited to play for NXT.”
The inaugural Expo Night’s overwhelming success led to the launch of a second one on August 13 from 6-8 p.m. at the Proving Grounds in Conshohocken. Click here to register for the second Expo Night. It’s a free opportunity open to anyone, whether they couldn’t make the first one or just want another top-of-the-line 90-minute lacrosse experience. It’s a terrific opportunity for girls to find out more about what to expect from NXTlacrosse Girls.
“We’d love to see some new faces come out for the second Expo Night,” Henwood said. “It’s important to us that girls have the chance to work on their game while getting exposed to our innovative coaching curriculum. We want them to learn new things and work on their skills as they work with our exceptional coaching staff. The Proving Grounds will be the official home of NXTlacrosse Girls, too, so it gives girls a chance to see the beautiful, top-of-the-line facility that we’ll be working with.”
