Trailing 9-3 after three periods Sunday, the sixth-ranked Lynchburg College lacrosse team rallied for a 10-9 victory over #8 Cabrini College in an important non-conference battle.
LC took a 3-1 lead midway through the first period, with three different goal scorers. The Cavaliers rattled off the next eight goals over the next two and a half periods, four from Damien Sobieski (Avon Grove). Cabrini took the six-goal lead into the final 15 minute period.
The Hornets started the fourth quarter with a goal in the first 10 seconds from Chris Hower. Dane Angell and Aaron Murphy (Downingtown East) followed with quick tallies to cut the edge to 9-6 with 11 minutes on the game clock.
Austin Stewart scored a minute later to make it a two-goal game and Jacob Fuller cut it to one at the 6:18 mark. Murphy tied the game with 5:23 remaining and Angell found the back of the net at 4:30 in what would prove to be the game winner.
Cabrini had possession inside the LC zone in the final minute, but the LC defense held firm and forced a turnover in the final 15 seconds to seal the win.
Murphy finished with three goals, while Stewart and Angell both had two goals. Chris Cornelius and Daniel Owens each had assists for LC. Junior Bobby Distler controlled the face-off circle, winning 18 of his 21 attempts and also had an assist.
Evan Downey scored twice for Cabrini (1-1), while Mike Leyden (Haverford High) had two assists. Dan Hopson (Interboro) caused four turnovers.
LC outshot Cabrini 45-34, and Distler snared a game-high six ground balls.
