Following a three-day training camp at the Westminster School in Simsbury, Conn., US Lacrosse has announced the final 23-man roster for the 2015 U.S. Men’s Indoor National Team. Team USA will compete in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Indoor Championship, Sept. 18-27 in Onondaga Nation and Syracuse, N.Y.
The team includes defenseman Brett Manney (NXT Showcase Director, Delaware and Holy Ghost Prep grad) and goalie Chris Collins (Drexel assistant coach, Delaware grad).
The U.S. men’s indoor national team is led by head coach Tony Resch (La Salle assistant, former Wings coach and standout, Barrage coach), and assistant coaches Adam Mueller (Old School, Mesa Fresh lacrosse coach) and Chris Schiller (Penn State grad). Jimmy Butler (general manager), Tim Soudan (assistant general manager), Mike Fox (equipment manager), Brian Mata (orthopedic physician), Adam Thomas (athletic trainer) and Ben Towne (athletic trainer) round out the staff.
Team USA has earned the bronze medal in each of the three FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship events (2003, 2007, 2011). The 2011 championship saw Canada defeat the Iroquois Nationals for gold in Prague, Czech Republic.
Six players returns from the 2011 bronze-medal winning U.S. team, including forwards Kevin Buchanan, Casey Powell and Drew Westervelt, defensemen Greg Downing and Joe Smith, and goalie Jake Henhawk.
“After an intense, competitive camp weekend, the Team USA coaching staff is very excited about the roster that will represent the United States in Syracuse,” said head coach Tony Resch. “We have a balance of veterans and newcomers, and we look forward to continuing our preparations for the 2015 World Games in the coming weeks. We recognize the great challenge we have in front of us, and embrace that challenge. The players, coaches, and staff will do everything within our power to represent the United States with class and courage, on and off the floor.”
