From Press Release
It’s time to break out those razors, say goodbye to those sweet staches and celebrate Lax Stache history. Lax Stache Madness Founder Ken Clausen (The Hill School graduate) is thrilled to announce that this year’s facial hair growing campaign has raised a record breaking $170,000 in support of the HEADstrong Foundation.
With more than 940 growers, representing 75 fundraising teams and over 2,700 donors generously contributing to its success this year, Lax Stache Madness grew more than $50,000 over their previous fundraising record set in 2014.
“Words cannot even begin to convey our excitement or our gratitude to everyone who was involved this year,” said Clausen. “Lax Stache Madness continues to make history and over the past 6 weeks we have seen so many amazing acts of generosity and support for HEADstrong and those affected by cancer.
“Teams were determined to make a difference, the competition, creativity and originality exuded by our participants this year was simply incredible. We wish to congratulate all of our participants and hope that everyone enjoys their victory shave.”
This year, HEADstrong Texas officially claimed the coveted Lax Stache Crown raising more than $18,107.15. Last year’s champions, University of Delaware Men’s Lacrosse fell just short of repeating by less than $770.87, raising $17,336.28.
Rich Moses, who serves as the Program Director for HEADstrong Texas andlast spring was named the winner of the HEADstrong Foundation’s Relentless Sprit winner at the annual Gala in Philly, successfully defended his Stache title raising a staggering $14,430.58, which is a new individual fundraising record for the campaign.
“I reached out to everyone I knew,” said Moses. “I created a Constant Contact list and sent it to every single one of my contacts. The results were amazing. My biggest donor ended up being a cousin of my wife whose her mom had passed away from cancer. She gave this heartfelt response when she donated.
“I had donations of $27, $100, $2500; players and kids I coached donated $20 or %25 here and there. Everyone bought into it. If they said no, I was coming after them again. They weren’t saying ‘No.’ I got good support from DFWLLL (DFW Lax Lights), Iron Horse, Stick Star and others; if they didn’t join the team they helped the cause.”
Moses said he has raised about $35,000 for HEADstrong in the past three months with the LaxStache and a recent clinic.
“When I won the Relentless Spirit Award, I made a pledge then that I would keep going and I am sticking to it,” he said.
