Four Philly boys helped Sweetlax National claim the 2018-19 Gold (top division) title Wednesday at the 26th annual Lake Placid lacrosse tournament.

Defenseman Devin Gilligan (Shipley, Big 4,Michigan commit), goalie Caton Johnson (Manheim Township, Duke’s, UNC commit), Matt Lane (Lancaster Country Day School, Big 4) and midfielder Quinn McCahon (Malvern Prep, Big 4, Penn commit) helped Sweet Lax finish 5-0 overall and topple the Long Island Express, 10-2, in the final.
“Most of us had previously played together either at (Maverik) Showtime or the Philly Freshman Showcase,” said Gilligan. “We bonded well and this allowed me to play with some guys who I will be playing with and against for the rest of high school and college.
“There were four of us (Philly players) on the team and we all got to start. I think the four of us played really well all week and we definitely contributed to our success.”
Gilligan said the tourney was a perfect ending to his summer.
“This summer was more for me to relax and have fun because I didn’t really need the recruiting tournaments,” he said. “Lake Placid was definitely a great end to the summer being able to win the championship with a great team.”
